SHAPE+ OpEN CALL

SHAPE+, a platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, supported by the “Creative Europe” programme of the European Union, runs until 2024. A new open call has been announced for artist submissions for the Year 1 SHAPE+ artist roster.

The working period of Year 1 of SHAPE+ will run tentatively from July 2022 till June 2023 (TBC).

Musicians are asked to provide an up to 10 minute long streamable video or audio excerpt of their live performance, while audiovisual artists are asked to provide streamable video documentation (or photos) of their work sent as online links (no attachments). Materials that are not sent in accordance to these requirements, will not be considered.

As the creation of the annual SHAPE+ artist roster is rather complex and demands consensus from 13 different organizations, we will not be able to get back to artists or musicians with detailed evaluations of the submitted materials. However, they will be contacted until the end of May by a nominating SHAPE+ organization in the case they’re chosen for the SHAPE+ roster of 2022-2023.

Artists, selected for this roster, will be invited to activities by individual festivals that are part of SHAPE+, not SHAPE+ centrally.

Applicants must be willing to participate in collaborative residencies with multiple artistic outcomes or one-off concerts/presentations during the period of Year1. Being open to greener forms of travel when possible is also crucial.

Key tips for applicants:
1) The aim of SHAPE is to help your careers and establish a working relationship over the course of one (1) year by doing several activities during this period, that will include artist meet-ups, lectures and workshops, doing guest interviews or mixes for radios and online media, possible residencies and performances. SHAPE+ is primarily not a vehicle to secure more gigs at festivals. If you expect that, you will be disappointed;
2) You have to live (ie. have permanent residence or pay taxes) in one of the countries listed below;
3) Be particular about your technical and financial requirements. It is understandable that conditions differ but replies such as “varies” or “ask me” may decrease your chances of being selected.

Applicants must be based in one of the European Union countries and/or in one of the countries listed in the dropdown on the website.
